GITEX GLOBAL and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have agreed to organize GITEX Nigeria by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
With this progress, there are now GITEX GLOBAL, GITEX Europe, GITEX AFRICA, and the latest addition, GITEX Nigeria.
The important event took place on Thursday during the ongoing GITEX AFRICA 2024 in Marrakech.
The MoU signing was done for Nigeria by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, organizers of GITEX.
Inuwa pointed out that activities such as GITEX Nigeria align with the directive given to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a tech platform in Nigeria to improve productivity using information technology.
“President Bola Tinubu is big and loud on trade and economic diversification, and you cannot trade in isolation. The President has mandated us to facilitate parts of this diversification,” said Inuwa.

He also stated that it will open doors for Africa’s largest economy to showcase to the world its huge talents in Information Technology, while attracting investment in human and capital.
The few days GITEX Nigeria event when hosted will add not less than $24million within few days to the nation’s treasury.
Trixie LohMirmand emphasized the impressive track record of Nigerian teams in GITEX pitch competitions, especially the recent ones leading to this event which our media team also witness closely. Six startups emerged as winners in these events; Dojah, Clinify, FundusAI, Exchangebox, Specxs, and Farmatrix,
“By bringing GITEX to Nigeria, we aim to explore the country’s potential in sectors like AI, digital health, and fintech. The initiative aims to not only showcase local advancements but also integrate the Nigerian tech scene with the wider GITEX network, providing Nigerian startups with a platform to connect with new markets,” she said.
“Nigeria is a big market for tech start-ups. We are particularly interested in GITEX to be there in Nigeria. We want to bring a unique formula that aligns with the economic expectations of Nigeria,’ LohMirmand added.
The GITEX Global tech expo takes place every year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, specifically at the Dubai World Trade Center. In 2023, the organizers launched GITEX Africa, the Africa version of the expo, and hosted the inaugural event in Morocco in collaboration with Morocco’s Digital Development Agency. The event’s second edition is currently taking place in Morrocco.
Although the date for GITEX Nigeria has not been confirmed, NITDA stated that this deal is a major advancement in establishing Nigeria as a major player in the global tech industry and confirming the President’s commitment to economic diversification and international trade integration in order to overhaul Nigeria’s economy.
